"Joaquim"

Joaquim woke me up early mornings

Joaquim never made it boring

Joaquim made sure I had everything with me before leaving the house

Joaquim without a doubt

Was always on my mind

Joaquim

Joaquim

Oh Joaquim

Why must things vanish

Like the island called Atlantis

Joaquim

You spoke soliloquies by the local taco truck

Joaquim

You would sail the seas for me in a rush

You left my lips wet

Until I learned to savor it

Joaquim

I am a living dead

Since you left

I live in a makeshift

From twigs and nice things

Joaquim

I eat bits of my heart every night

I now know how to savor

There’s only one bite left

I left it out on the kitchen stove

For you

For you

It has gotten cold

For you

For you

Joaquim

I now know how to savor

Please come back

Eat the last bite

Do me the favor
